Hour 42 Check-In

Holy cats, batman, this weekend has flown by!

There are six hours left in the official 24-in-48 readathon timeline (though you know we like to keep things lax around here, so maybe there are more or less hours left in your version of this readathon).

With the end in sight, do you think you’ll hit 24 hours of reading? What’s the best book you’ve read so far? What’s the best snack you’ve eaten? TELL US EVERYTHING.

After a quick break to move around (impromptu dance party, anyone?) and get the blood flowing again, it’s time to double back down on the books. Six hours is a lot of time to catch up/keep up/hit your reading goals, but if it goes as quickly as the rest of this weekend has, you know midnight will be here before we know it!

I don’t think I’ll make 24 hours, but I never thought I would be able to. I’m 62 and I sleep. When I was younger this would have been much easier. LOL One of the first books I read was a middle grades book called This Journal Belongs to Ratchet. Excellent! And I am in the middle of Saint Mazie and enjoying the heck out of it! But I’m also reading NOS4A2 by Joe Hill. Loving it. It helps that I tried to pick books I thought I’d really like for this readathon. Snacks? Too busy reading. I did go to the farmer’s market this morning and bought salsa (and green beans). .

I’m going to get about 14 hours, but I’m happy. I loved just be able to read, without feeling like I should be doing something else. Yesterday, I read The Enchanted in 1 sitting. The writing was incredible and beautiful. My husband made me a BLT for dinner and it was yummy.

  3. Surprisingly, at this rate I’m probably going to hit the 24hrs. It’s been perfect reading weather, no urge to go outside in the windy cold snap we’re having here in Australia right now. Best book – Superposition by David Walton – really different and very compelling, read it in one sitting. Best snack – soy chips. Hope everyone’s enjoyed themselves!

  4. I will be happy if I even get to 12 hours. However, that is a vast improvement over the roughly 3.5 hours I logged in Dewey’s in April. I have to do grownup stuff like drive kids around and make dinner, so I don’t feel too bad about it. I guess my favorite snack was the Babybel cheese I ate last night while I read. My husband ate all the chickpea snacks I mentioned in my comment at the first check-in.

I won’t make it. I have 11 hours now. I really only wanted to make it to 12 hours so I’m happy with that I’ve done. I’ll get some more done soon. My head started to ache and spin so I couldn’t read for most of today. I would have made it if I hadn’t felt so bad. Oh well. There is next time. Before I started to feel bad I read My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece by Annabel Pitcher, Pretty Face by Mary Hogan, and one in the Dear America series (most depressing book I’ve ever read). Now I’m starting on My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine Wange. My sister gave me an amazing chocolate chip cookie (my favorite food) so I’m all ready to get back to reading. The cookie is by far the best snack this weekend!

I hope you make your goals!

I have about one hour of reading to go. I’m quickly approaching the finish line! Today I read “Everything, Everything” by Nicola Yoon and I loved it and will be recommending it to everyone when it is released. For my favorite snack, I drizzled melted peanut butter over top some gluten free, chocolate covered pretzels. It was the best!

  7. I may will only get a little bit more than 12 hours. I had some work-related deadlines to met, scheduled a date and dinner, and I am a sleepyhead in general, LOL. I am reading my third book, and so far the best one was the first book I finished, Kemayoran. It is a memoir of a stewardess who was also a prominent literary authors in Indonesia. I didn’t get much snack because it is fasting month in our family religion tradition.. I wish I could, though! Who knows it would help with my sleepiness 😉

  8. My favorite read was Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Story of The Man With the Cream Tarts” from the Suicide Club trilogy. My favorite snack? Probably when I snuck out to Buffalo Wild Wings today. 🙂
