Hour 42 – Your Favorites

How’s everyone holding up? I know some of you are already done with the readathon, in which case, bravo. For those of you on the official clock, we’ve got 6 hours left, and now’s crunch time. Are you done with your 24 hours? Do you have some time on the stopwatch left to go? Is your brain mushy yet?

You guys posted some great book spine poetry, and I’ve got a winner from you poets:

Shana (@schuylerfan)

It’s dinnertime at 24in48 headquarters, and we’re making grilled caprese sandwiches (fresh mozzarella, basil, prosciutto, tomatoes, and a little olive oil, grilled between slices of Italian bread). They’re my favorite readathon sandwich because they’re super easy and really fresh.

Since we’re almost done with the ‘thon, I’m curious about your favorites from this weekend. In the comments, tell me: 1) your favorite book of the readathon, 2) your favorite snack/meal of the readathon, and 3) your favorite non-book, non-snack part of the readathon.

I’ll choose one random person from the comments to win your choice of a $10 Starbucks giftcard, a $10 Amazon giftcard, or a book (US$10 or less) from the Book Depository in the last check-in post of the readathon in six hours.

Good luck in this very last home stretch, readathoners! You got this!

You can still fill out the Intro Survey for a chance to win too!

  5. I’m only at 10.5 hours but plan to participate for the next 6!! My favorite book has been a graphic novel, Displacement, by Lucy Knisley. My favorite snack should have been healthy but wasn’t when I found the apple cider donuts my husband received from his grandmother. And my the final favorite component of this weekend has been sitting on my couch, bundled in my blankets, the sun shinning in, while reading and watching for updates from other participants. Thanks!!

My favorite read was The Nature of the Beast by Louise Penny. What a great series! Yesterday I made potato skins as an easy-to-eat-while-reading meal. Yum. My favorite non-book, non-snack part of the Readathon was keeping up with the #24in48 Twitter feed and seeing how much fun everyone was having, and how much reading everyone was doing (and what books were being read). Is that 3 things?

    1) Favorite Book: I’m about halfway through The Little White Bird and it’s my favorite by a long shot. I totally struck out with my other two books. They were so boring.
    2) Favorite Snack: I bought some yummy crumbly asiago cheese today and I’ve been munching on that and drinking caramel apple tea for the last couple hours. Yum!
    3) Favorite Other: I loved cuddling with my puppies last night. And I loved talking about how terrible the last book was, with my friends who also thought the book was terrible.

I finished my 24 hours a few hours ago and have been flitting around catching up with social media since. It was a really fun time, and I can’t wait for the next one. Hopefully I’ll be better prepared, with some better books, the next time.

I have really liked all my books for different reasons. I don’t think I can pick a favorite when I haven’t even had a chance to let them sink in. All I can say is that I chose well! It was so nice to snack on m&m’s as an easy thing to grab while I turned pages. It’s not the most nutritious or delicious, but easy wins the day! My favorite part of this was creating the spine poetry because I’ve said forever that I wanted to do that and just never did. So, thanks for not only all the reading fun but that, too! I’m looking forward to checking out the hashtag tomorrow when I have time to actually be a part of all the great fun others were having with their books.

  30. I somehow managed to be EXCELLENT books for this ‘thon. If I’m forced to pick a favorite, it would have to be George (but I still haven’t finished Slade House yet which is some strong competition). My favorite snack would have to be my baked sweet potatoes with walnuts and cheese. My favorite part other than reading or snacking would have to be following the action on Twitter. I love to see what others are reading, where they’re at, and how they’re doing!

  32. My favorite book of the Readathon was Giant Days: Volume 1. It was so delightful, even whimsical. I may re-read it tonight just for kicks and giggles. My favorite snack were caramel covered popcorn, cashews, and almonds. My favorite non-book part was seeing which participants were reading books I’d already read or were reading too. The bookish banter is not part of my daily life, so it was great to discuss books with others.

I didn’t read as much as I’d planned over the readathon, but that was fine because the time I wasn’t reading was still mostly downtime, which I needed. My favorite book has been Year of Yes by Shonda Rhimes, which I loved, and which felt like an excellent read for the start of the year. My favorite snack was chocolate hazelnut biscotti from Trader Joe’s. Yum. And my favorite non-reading/non-snack part of the readathon was seeing everyone’s shelfies, because I’m a sucker for great book photos. 🙂
