Hour 9: Feed the Coffee Monster

Aaaaaaaaaand, we’re awake! Sort of. Mostly. Or rather, Kristen and I (Kerry) are awake (sort of, mostly), and Rachel’s been awake for hooooours, because time zones. (Hello from the past, Rachel!).

We’re over here checking in on all the 24in48 social channels and figuring out which books to read first and generally getting things in order for the next 12 or so hours of readathoning.

Who am I kidding, this is totally us right now:

With nine hours under our belts already (how did that happen!?), we want to know how you’re feeling. How are things? Are you just starting, or did you stay up late last night to get a head start? Are you in a different time zone, waving to us from the future?

Let us know how things are going in the comments, or tag us on social with the hashtag #24in48. I’ll just be over here basking in the love I have for this ever-growing community of readers, grateful to be spending the weekend with you all.

We’ll be back at Hour 12 with the next challenge for y’all, but in the meantime, here are your Hour 9 door prize winners!

I’ve been reading on and of for the past 9 hours (starting at 6 am CET) and have 5:46 hours of reading time under my belt. Things are looking good! I’m reading with my besty (Jennifer de Wolf-Collins) and aside from shower and food breaks we’ve been reading full on and loving it!

Im into hour three so far. I tried hard to stay up when the readathon started but only got an hour in, and then woke up at four and only read for 30 mins before I fell asleep again haha. But going strong now. Feel pretty good. I’m currently in Cleveland Ohio!!!

  4. I’ve been reading for a little over 8 1/2 hours (Eastern DST). I stopped for coffee and breakfast and then went right back at it. I may have to take a nap this afternoon.

I’m just starting because I had a lovely walk on the beach (and breakfast!) and a meeting, but now I’m tucking in to the Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society 🙂

  6. It’s 6:55am here in CA (Hi, Jill Love, my fellow west coaster!). I AM EXHAUSTED. Not from reading, but from being up every 1.5 hours with my 1yr old who’s had a cold all week. Not fun. I plan on waking up with some strong coffee and jumping into my books… I’ve got about 3 different ones going that I started earlier this week 🙂

I am into my 4th hour. I mostly listened to my current book during the night. It is so well done, I will only follow along in ebook version, so as not to miss dramatic reading. Behold the Dreamers by Imbolo Mbue

  8. I’ve barely gotten to engage so far — I’m at work this morning, and tonight I have a gig with my band. So most of my reading will happen tomorrow. But I DID sneak in one trade paperback today at work so that’s 45 minutes, BOOM! And should get some audio reading in between my two conflicts today.

  9. Hello from Takoma Park, MD. Out of all the Reading Marathons, this will be the slowest for me. I am feeling as catching up on a week’s sleep during the 24in48 (not the best idea). This time around my goal will be to halfway through two books, anything above that is BONUS – but it is okay. This is my slow 24in48! I am in Eastern Time Zone, it is 11:15 AM, and I am still waking up, lol.

I’m making good progress of Children of Blood and Bone… but unfortunately I’m getting new tires so had to switch to audio. Home soon and back to my stacks!

Brutal, undeniable pain. The kind of pain that could kill a man. Maybe it had. Maybe the pain throbbing in his head right at this moment had killed him and he’d have to spend eternity feeling like this. Like warmed-over shit melting in the hot desert sun. The worst part about all this? It was his fault. He had no one to blame for this but himself—and those damn Jell-O shots. He should have stayed away from them. He knew better. All that alcohol in those delectable little jiggly squares … what was he thinking? And now he could barely move without pain. Brutal, undeniable pain.

I slept late today because of a vicious cold. But awake now and listening to Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Wolff. It’s a rainy Saturday in Northern Virginia, which is perfect for readathon! Love to the organizers and thanks for all the hard work!
