You guys are absolute heroes! We made it to the end, and as always, I’m humbled and proud and freakin’ exhausted. And despite the late night, we’ve got some important business AKA PRIZES to take care of first.
We had 1165 readers join in from all over the world. Considering that back in January when we did this last, there were just about 460 readers, I’m so stoked about the response this time around.
It has to be said that this explosion is due in no small part to the amazing crew at Litsy, especially Kendra and Liberty for hosting giveaways, challenges and Twitter takeovers all weekend. Litsy was on fire all weekend (in fact, you guys crashed the app a couple times because of the traffic). What a great readathon!
I read for 24.5 hours, five books and 1,713 pages. Three books were print and two ebooks.
The hashtag was phenomenal. I loved being able to see how everyone else was doing. Litsy and Twitter were great. Definitely plan to participate next year!

1. I read 5 books total. I read 3 books start to finish (2 comic trades), finished 1 already started book, and finished 1 already started audio book. I read 794 pages and listened to 5 hours & 36 minutes of audio.
2. I read for a total of 16 hours and 27 minutes (5 hours & 36 minutes of audio). This was a lot more than I thought I’d do, since I have two little kiddos and my husband is out of town. (The kids played really well as I read!)
3. I loved the community on Litsy. They are very supportive, great conversationalists, and a lot of fun. I also love that even though I knew I couldn’t do the full 24 hours, everyone was welcoming and encouraging anyway. While I didn’t do all the challenges, it was fun to see the creative things people did. I especially enjoyed the spine poetry. Also, #hashtags on Litsy! Hooray! That made it so much easier to see what people were up to.
4. I live in the Northwest and felt like I was trying to keep up with things going on over on the East Coast. I’m not sure that needs to be fixed, but it’s something I’m thinking about. I participated on Litsy and didn’t realize frequent posts were going up on the blog (with all the great .gifs!). Plus Twitter and Instragram! Not that you need more things to post, but maybe cross post or link more on Litsy to the other platforms? (Unless that defeats the purpose of getting more people involved and on Litsy). I was bummed about Litsy’s technical difficulties and I stopped using it for a while due to the loading issues. However, I am glad to hear it was because so many people were using the app! I do like the idea of a group read.

I read 8 books, plus part of 2 audiobooks. It ended up being 1881 pages (plus 3.5 hours of audiobook time).

3. What do you think worked well in this readathon?
I loved the freedom to read whatever we wanted and the flexibility to try for whatever amount of time we could handle. I LOVED that there were so many people participating! It really made it feel like a fun community event.
4. What do you think could be done to improve the readathon for next time?
I probably could have done this unofficially myself, but I would have loved the option to start reading on Friday night instead of waiting for midnight. A readathon I used to participate in would run from 7am Friday – 7am Monday and participants could choose any 48-hour period within that time. BUT I understand that that’s harder to manage.
I personally would have liked to be able to count some of the updating / social media time as “readathon hours”, but again, I understand that the point is to actually READ 24 hours (and it felt great to do that, actually!). Plus, since we crashed Litsy (!!), maybe people don’t need to be encouraged to participate on social media MORE… 😉
5. Will you participate in a future 24in48 readathon?
ABSOLUTELY! And I really appreciate that the date is set so far ahead of time – that allows me to plan and reserve that weekend for reading (yay!).

Everything! It was a bummer Litsy crashed a couple times, but not a surprise!

Nothing really, unless Litsy could get a little more power behind it 😊 Maybe an organized fundraiser attached (which could be optional. I did a personal one for TX literacy coalition!)

The online participation was great. I had an absolute blast!
Maybe adding snapchat or periscope to the social media presence might be fun too.

I think that all of the interaction and encouragement worked well.

I don’t really have any suggestions. I was very impressed.

Absolutely. I would do a couple of things differently on my end so that I get in more time.
1. Be well rested before the readathon. I found that I was tired and just wanted to veg part of the weekend.
2. Clean the house before so it’s not distracting. LOL
3. Plan more effectively. Where do I want to read and so on.

I read 3 books from my TBR (528 pages) and finished 1 book was reading (~ 200 pages).
I read for a total of 10:31:28.2
I loved that everything centered around a few social media sites with lots of interaction and interest from other users.
In the future, a little bit more clarity around what to incorporate currently reading books into the readathon.
I will definitely enter again – I had a blast!

4. For the next one, I would suggest some Tips/Tricks from past participants. I would have been better prepared with snacks that way & definitely would have read more the 1st day rather than cutting it so close. Also, I would recommend 1 specific hashtag rather across all platforms. More questions, quizzes, etc. leading up to the big event to build excitement.

1. I finished two books I’d already started, one audiobook start to finish, half of a print book and half of two other audiobooks! Didn’t track pages.

3. I liked the timing of the Litsy challenges; they kept me checking in every couple of hours but weren’t too time consuming.
4. Maybe more pump-up posts/discussions a couple of days before, stuff like tips for newbies about snacks, pacing, audio vs print books, recommendations, etc.

2. I proudly clocked 20 hours. So close, yet so far! But the 10+ audiobook hours really helped!
3. I LOVE this readathon. It gave me time to do what I love to do. Plus I enjoyed meeting other participants through Litsy and Instagram. It was fun to see how everyone else was doing. Plus the contests Rocked!
4. You can’t improve Greatness! I’d love to have more contests: maybe the day before and after. This way, it doesn’t interrupt reading time. I’d also like to see a geographical list of where everyone is from: how many in what countries and states.
5. I wouldn’t miss the next one! I’m already planning my strategy. 🙂
