Hour 24: Snacks and Stacks

Guys, you’re halfway there!! (Okay, the official timeclock is halfway there.)

You’ve totally got it under control. But, ya know, Sunday is notoriously harder than Saturday on the readathon calendar, deceptively so. You think you know what you’ve got left, you probably got a lot of reading done, and you’re feeling confident. But Sunday is the day when responsibilities that were neglected creep back in, the lethargy from sitting and reading can spell unexpected naps, and you might have trouble getting into that next book because you’ve had a good run so far. So give yourself permission right now to go to bed if you need to, take a break, get some sleep, and start fresh tomorrow.

If you’re a night owl or if you’re not based on the east coast of the US (which is probably most of you), I’ve got another challenge for you. In the comments, leave a photo (or a comment) of your snacks or your stack of books for this readathon weekend. I want to see what’s on your TBR and your TBE (that’s To Be Eaten, obvi). Mostly I want to live vicariously through all of your yummy food and your pretty, pretty stacks. You’ve got until Hour 30 to enter (that’s six hours from now).

Oh, but before you go, the winners of the Hour Zero Intro Challenge are:

  1. Here’s my tbr:

I’ve already finished one of these and had to pick up an e-book inbetween to sha things up but hopefully today I’ll pick up another book 😊

As for tbe, I didn’t have any snacks for yesterday, apart from tea and some chocolate. For today, I got some tortilla chips and muesli wuth yoghurt, if I crave something sweet. It’s my first time participating, so I’ll be better prepared next time 🙂

  3. I took a nap while it was hot this afternoon, so I’ll be able to spend the cool night hours reading. I’ve got a box of Cheez-Its, Cherry ice cream, and dried kiwi slices (the obligatory healthy snack), plus lots of different herbal teas and box of Barry’s Gold black tea to stay caffeinated and hydrated all night.
My TBR for the rest of the weekend:
    Neutrino Hunters, by Ray Jayawardhana
Loosed Upon the World, edited by John Joseph Adams
    Trigger Warning, by Neil Gaiman
    Stamboul Train, by Graham Greene
Holy Terror in the Hebrides, by Jeanne M. Dams

Alphonse (Less than 100 pages left)
    Columbine (7h 37min left)
I’ve read 9 hours, so I may need to start another book before the 24 hours are up!

    TBE:
    BACON!!!! & chai tea lattes
Not at the same time though. I snacked on bacon all Saturday and it kept me full and focused. I think it’s worth noting that I’m on the Keto lifestyle so fat keeps my body and brain fueled!

I’ve got Flamin’ Hot Cheetos, which I’m only daring to eat because I’m back on ebooks right now and not paper books which could get smudged with Cheetos dust. I’ve also still got old faithful – Cherry Pepsi – and it’s about three hours until a reasonable coffee time. Then I’ve got sunflower seeds (dill pickle and sweet & spicy flavored) and another bag of gummi bears. I am well stocked on snacks.

As for my TBR, I’m working my way through the King In Yellow Collection now, I’ve got The Girl Who Played With Fire next up on audiobook, and I still have Leviathan Wakes sitting next to me. So lots of options!

I also have Dr. Chris Ryan’s Sex at Dawn, Frankenstein on audiobook, and the Del Rey Star Wars sampler ebook package as the backup TBR in case I somehow magically make it through my primary TBR or I’m just not feeling something. Which, you know, I doubt.

My late night readathon? Chips and salsa plus a heavy dose of And the Band Played On. The AIDS epidemic may be a little heavy for 3 AM, but this book has been a reading goal for years. Up soon, buffalo pretzel sticks and The Throwback Special! Or maybe some sleep and Starbucks in the morning. Hmmmm….

Also, I didn’t leave my dog out of the snacking. He got some of his “candy bar” food: Royal Canin Mini Special. He loves that stuff!

Snacking on prime rib and baked potato from dinner out. Remind me never to go out to dinner alone on a Saturday night to read…

  11. So far I’ve snacked on popcorn, ice cream and Oreos (please don’t judge me lmao) but I’ve also been good and eaten soup and fruit and stuff!!!
I don’t have a big stack this time around because I have a busy day today but The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger and The Roses of May by Dot Hutchinson are my (little) stack!

My TBR is pretty long, but some of the books that fall earlier on my TBR are Uprooted, Rosalie Lightning, Sula, The Masked City, and I Kill Giants.

One of the highlights of my TBE is a chocolate bar that my friends dropped off for me this morning! I’m also looking forward to eating some refreshing snacks like a banana smoothie.

I am currently listening to Lindy West’s Shrill and working on a bowl of ice cream. But most of my snacks are healthy; I’ve got a supply of bananas and cherries and some mixed nuts. Not sure what book is up next, I’ve mostly been playing it by ear. But there will be sleep first…

  15. Raided the fridge. Bag of Cut’n’Clean brand Collard Greens. Bacon ends found in freezer. Cook Bacon just enough in cast iron skillet, add some water, start pushing in the greens, adding more as the earlier ones get cooking and take up less space. Shake on a bit of Cajun seasoning.

No pictures….the snacks area already eaten and the books were mostly ebooks, but I can tell you what I ate/read. I had dry Lucky Charms cereal, beef jerky, and lots of coffee (although not all at the same time) and read 4 1/2 books: Rapture and Unforgiven by Lauren Kate, Death on the Family Tree and Sins of the Father by Patricia Sprinkly, and the first 7 chapters of Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick.
