Hour 39: Get Up and Go Go Go!

A teal background with the 24in48 logo and the title "Hour 39: Check-In: Get Up and Go Go Go."

Here’s the thing about reading: it’s (usually) a fairly sedentary activity. So if you’re finding yourself fading, might we suggest you get up and move around a bit? Do some stretches, take a walk (bring an audiobook along if you want to try to cram in more reading time while you’re out and about!), find a new spot to curl up with your book. It’s easy to get lost in the pages and forget about that crink in your neck until it’s too late to stop the crink from becoming a full-blow crank.

Andre the Giant in the Princess Bride shouts "Everybody move!"
“Everybody move!”

Ok, now that we’ve all stretched a bit, why don’t we reward ourselves with a few more door prize winners? This round of prizes is brought to you by Little Brown and Company, and our winners will win a copy of one of the following titles:

Hour 33: Here We Go Again

A teal background with the 24in48 logo and the title "Hour 33: Check-In: Here We Go Again."

We’re back around to 9am for two out of three of your co-hosts, which means we’re staring down another whole day of nothing but ‘thon. These morning hours (EST) are some of my favorites of the entire 24in48 because all three of your co-hosts are awake and working together behind the scenes, and so many readers across the world are reading, reading, reading in their respective time zones. It’s just so FUN, y’all!

Phoebe from Friends enthusiastically exclaims, "SO MUCH FUN!"

Are you also having as much fun as we are? If not, what do you need to turn your weekend around? More prizes? Ok then! We can do that.

This round of prizes is brought to you by a whole mess of sponsors! Viking, Riverhead, Penguin, and Out of Print made it possible for our winners this hour to receive one of the following:

🎁Bunny, 🎁How Could She, 🎁The Gifted School,

Hour 27: Do It. Fierce. Power.

A teal background with the 24in48 logo and the title "Hour 27: Check-In: Do It. Fierce. Power."

Ok, friends. We’ve made it up to and through the halfway point of this weekend. It’s currently 3am for co-hosts Kristen & Kerry, and 9am for Rachel. (K&K are probably asleep right now; Rachel is steering the ship while we get our beauty rest.)

This is about the time that people tend to really need some motivation to keep going, power through, and read on, so here’s a reminder that even if you aren’t going to make a full 24 hours of reading (I know I won’t!), you’ve still got most of an entire day ahead of you to make books and reading and this community (and naps and snacks and whatever else makes you the happiest) your priority.

Hour 21: The Doctor Is In

teal background with 24in48 logo and title, "Hour 21: Check-In: The Doctor is In"

What? You thought this would be the #24in48 where I managed not to draft a post entirely filled with Doctor Who gifs? Pssh. No way. Never going to happen.

David Tennant as Doctor Who leans on a wall and says, "NAH!"

So, since The Doctor is in, as it were, let us know how things are going! Are you hanging in there? Crushing your goals? Struggling and needing a bit of encouragement? Ready for a nap? (I know I am…)

The Thirteenth Doctor gestures and says, "When people need help, I never refuse."

Wherever you are in your #24in48 journey, this is a reminder that you (yes, you!) are doing a great job. Whether you’ve read for 21 seconds, 21 minutes, or 21 straight hours, you’re making reading a priority in whatever way works for you, and that’s an amazing thing!

David Tennant as the Doctor says, "Oh yes!" while wearing 3D glasses.

Be kind to yourself, and give credit where credit is due.

Peter Capaldi as the Doctor says, "Be kind" with dramatic lighting.

And remember…

Matt Smith as the Doctor shouts "You can do it!"

But before you go forth to do the thing, how about some more door prizes? Hour 9: Rise and Shine and Read!

Teal background with 24in48 logo reads "Hour 9: Check-In: Rise and Shine and Read".

Your two EST co-hosts (Kerry and Kristen) are waking up, coffee-ing, and getting ready to really dive in to this weekend we love so much (meanwhile, co-host Rachel is wrapping up the end of her day on the other side of the world like so many of you, and now that we’re awake in the US, she’ll get a bit of a hosting break so she can actually, you know, read a book).

Sir Patrick Stewart reclines in a bed with a book in hand. The caption reads, "All I require is to sit in the sun and read my book. Alone."

For those just waking up and getting started, what are you reading first? What are you eating first? What are you most excited about?

For those who’ve been up for hours and have already finished more books than those of us sleepyheads have even considered, what did you read and love? What were your best meals and snacks? What are you most excited about?

Don’t forget that we’re going live on Instagram in just ONE HOUR at 10am EST! Come hang out with Kristen (aka watch her have no clue what she’s doing), and most likely a dog or two.

This hour’s post – which includes our first round of door prize winners! – is brought to you by Coffee House Press, an independent publisher whose mission is create new spaces for audiences and artists to interact, inspiring readers and enriching communities by expanding the definition of what literature is, what it can do, and who it belongs to.
